How often do you think about your posture? I’m not sure I would give it as much thought as I do if it wasn’t for my scoliosis. I know though when my lower back starts to ache or my neck and shoulders get stiff, I think, gotta stand up straight. Or maybe it's a sign that I’m slouching while I’m sitting and it’s adverse effect on my body. Either way, poor posture is most likely to blame.

By now we’ve all heard about the importance of proper posture. It’s good for your muscles, bones, balance, internal organs, digestion, and effective in minimizing back pain. Additionally, poor posture is a main cause of back pain.

The reason we created Tulifts is because we wanted to provide support both in your breast tissue which helps support your back as well! Here are some postures that help your back:

Good Standing Posture
If you were to hold a string with a weight tied to one end and have someone hold the string to your earlobe and drop the weight it should end up on the floor centered by the side of your foot. The string should pass by the center of your shoulder, elbow, hip and knee.

Having your head to far forward or your shoulders not pulled back and down is not good posture.A good posture will have the chin tucked in. The shoulders are relaxed, not hunched to your neck, and the bottom tucked in. And last, have your weight evenly distributed on both feet.

Good Posture Sitting
I find sitting in a good chair helps, make sure your feet can comfortably rest on the floor. Sit with the chin tucked in, try not to have your head too far forward, doing so puts a lot of strain on your shoulders and neck, keep the shoulders relaxed. The hips, knees, and ankles should be at right angles with the thighs in level with the knees.

Maintaining a good posture is not limited to sitting and standing alone. It extends into the way you walk, the way you lie down. But if you keep these rules in mind and practice them daily it will become a good habit.

I recently bought my daughter a device called the Upright Go, which reminds you to stand up or sit up straight. She's given a great review so far! If you try it, please let me know in the comments below.

Here are other good posture poses and exercises you can try. I do each of them daily. They are simple and not time consuming but really can improve your posture.
